Customer Reviews

We got this keyboard for my son for Christmas. He has really enjoyed it. The microphone is a bit difficult to use (you have to have your mouth on the microphone to get it to work) but everything else has worked well. The scratch pad makes record scratch noises when turned one direction and makes "boing" sounds in the other. It shows the notes as you play and it has fun graphics that go along with the pre-programmed songs. Ours even came with batteries. The only thing we have had issues with, was our son drooled on the keyboard while trying to use the microphone (he puts the microphone in his mouth to get it to work) and the keyboard stopped working. We let it dry out for a couple of days and it works again.

I'd say this keyboard is of average quality for toys in this price range, and my 2 year old daughter does enjoy playing with it. However, I am disappointed at the actual "keyboard" aspect of the keyboard. All the bells ; whistles are nice and entertaining for a young child, but I had hoped to use it to eventually introduce her to very basic music notes, chords, etc, and it falls short here.
It supports four-note polyphony (i.e. can play a chord made up of up to 4 notes), but sometimes the resultant chord is inaccurate. Let me be clear, I'm not saying it's out of tune, or that it sounds cheap, I'm saying it's outputting the wrong 4 notes (e.g. a major chord will sound as if it's a minor chord). If you press the keys in a different order (but pressing the same 4 keys nonetheless) then it will produce different chords. I realize this is a $30 child's toy, and I don't expect it to sound like a professional keyboard (it doesn't), but I would expect it to get basic notes and chords right. My old Casio SK-1 from the 80's got the notes right, I think this one should too.
So, for now I consider this toy not much more than a fancy "noise maker" with a mic on it.
